Tour of Ireland 2009

Post by Sparky » Mon Nov 03, 2008 12:01 am

I have decided I,m not going to Euro Germany next year as there are so many places I have not visited so much closer to home. I have always fancied a tour of Ireland and was wondering if any other members thought the same and would care to join me in May or June next year on a tour of Ireland either camping or b and b at selected stop over points on the island. I have no plans at present and was hoping for suggestions of routes and camp sites etc. Please contact me if your interested or have any useful suggestions.

Cheers

Can recomend any where in Ireland, although I prefer the South, specially Waterford, Kerry, Cork and Clare. Not all the roads are great but the views and the people are great.

If that way I recommend, some if not all of the Ring of Kerry.

It would be a lot safer for motorcyclists if cars were banned from public roads

Have no fixed data at the moment.
Most important is that I have some idea for the route I wanted to do.
With that route I can calculate the time I do need for such a trip.
But this is just a part of the planned trip.
At the moment it is from home to France, cross the Channel, travel to Fishgaurd, do the island, go to Scotland and along the Scottish west and north coast.
So Ireland is just a small part of the trip
This bike has never seen left hand traffic or an Atlantic Ocean
That should be changed

EgbertO

PS have nearly 6k km on the new bike
It would be a lot safer for motorcyclists if cars were banned from public roads

Sparky try this link. http://www.northwest200.org. It is suppose to give the date very shortly, but I think it is the 9th May 2009. It is a week of events and there are race practices I think on the Wednesday and Thursday evening from about 6pm to 9pm and then the races are all day Saturday. If it is good weather anything up to 100,000 people can turn up for it. There is an official camp site, but if your look for bed and breakfast or a hotel you need to book very early as they fill up pretty quick.

i'll be going there, done a lap of the course this year but in the wet. been to ireland the last 2 years now on the bike, it's good scenery, but the rd's r not amazing, there's a few good ones but on them there's plenty of cars. if u go of the main track a bit u will find some very pretty places but then ur on country lanes narrow with lots of tractors :temper: dont get me wrong it's a lovely place if u just wanna toodle about taking in the sights. but if u want long sweeping not too busy rd's u wont find that there. ive done most of ireland now and enjoyed it apart from getting soaked for a week last time

May / June is a good time to come with May the better month due to the weather. NW200 is definitely 16 May 2009.
