Have in the back of your mind the new mot regulations regarding noise. Exhausts have to sound similar to what standard exhausts would give out or it could be a fail.

That has been the way the mot regs were worded for the last 20 years.
I wouldn't worry too much as most mot testers are hearing impaired (too many noisy exhausts ) Seriously though until they give us noise measuring equipment its down to the individual tester and unless they make your ears bleed you should be ok.
SO MANY LAMPOSTS...........so little time . . . . STUPID PLACE TO PUT A WALL WASNT IT !!!!!
OH DEER !!!!

I got a warning of my tester when i took my Virago 1100 in with Jardine pipes. It was loud. He gave me a pass certificate and told me to get it sorted for next year. Thats the reason I'm now riding the XJR as I wasn't going to splash out on new exhausts for the bike not to be worth any more afterwards. I must admit the tester is someone I have used for years when i had Goldwings

Same here with my R1 which in all fairness is stupidly loud  Advised to find a db killer for 2019. I think i may have to find a more accommodating MOT tester 1st. No issues with the XJR though as that's running standard equipment.
If hitting it with a hammer doesn't work, it must be electrical.
