Helmet

Post by dave5500 » Tue Mar 18, 2014 1:28 pm

I want a new helmet but have a massive head and need a XL, want something that's obviously comfortable and has low wind noise.

Currently have a AVG K3 which is ok.

What are you lot using?

I recently got a Shark vision R, disappointed as it is noisy and quite heavy compared to my old shoei :(

naturally, you have to see what feels right. I went from a Shark 900 to a Shoei GT Wanderer... the silence!, and comfort, increased vision, flip down, sculpted and at 60+ my head no longer feels like it is getting ripped off my neck. Lovely thing, look at one while shopping.

Rehashing this old thread to let anyone know that I just purchased a Kabuto Aeroblade 3. Its light. Has slots and plenty of room for your polarised sunnies or prescription glasses. Best of all plenty of room for your ears for long trips.

I had a OGK Helmet many years ago, and for many years, but back then they were just heavy solid fibreglass open face. Now they are known as Kabuto.
With average size ears I don't get the tips squashed wearing prescription sunnies which tends to ache after a while with this XL size helmet.
Attached is a un bias review for those unfamiliar with the brand. To me this guy must have bigger than normal ears or needs to step up to the XL.

I,ve had AGV And Shoei in the past but both have been uncomfortable for me
After trying an Arai probably 20 years ago I now wouldn't or even consider anything else
I think the fit and quality are second to none and that you get what you pay for
Saying that they always say your either a Shoei head or an Arai head and if you fit one the chances are that you won,t fit the other
I still have all but 2 of my first crash helmets,a kangol gladiator !!!!! And a Bell 2 which I put black pinstripes over to mimic Canadian Steve Bakers design I think
I,ve got 6 or 7 Arais that I will never part with including a ltd edition Barry Sheene And a ltd edition Norton RX7GP
Funny enough the RX 7GP is the most uncomfortable as Arai changed the lining in this model as it was designed primarily for racing so they fitted a special wicking lining to combat sweaty heads so I,m told.also I had to go up a head size as Arai changed the shell size slightly
As for being noisy,I think ear plugs can make a huge difference.if I don,t put both ear plugs in properly the difference in noise levels is quite considerable so you either have to stop and readjust your ear plugs or plod on so it might not be down to the crash helmet
I fancy the new Kenny Roberts RX7 -V....................

Webster, whilst watching the TT senior (on telly) I noticed an abundance of the RX7-V of the grid, made me feel that I had made the right choice and yes ear-plugs are the way forward. I got mine from helmet city and got a good deal. My one is the Feddie Spencer rep...

I think they,ve only just come out as well Diego so are they replacing the RX 7 GP !!!!!!!????? Also has Arai gone back to the more standard velour like soft lining ??
I couldn't,t get on with my Shoei after a couple or three months as I found it loosened up to much and felt uncomfortable so being a very wise person that I am I decided to get a custom paint job on it knowing full well it didn't fit to well and was uncomfortable
