2002 forks on a 1999 XJR1300?

Post by TQM » Thu Mar 05, 2020 12:24 pm

Hi all. New member here. Sorry to use my first post with a question rather than an introduction, will update that soon.

Anyhoo, the question: can a 1999 XJR1300 be fitted with 2002 forks? I know the internals were a bit different but are there any external differences? Ie, will the wheel, speedo, brake calipers etc all still match up? Also are the later forks still the same total length from the axle to where the top clamp grips on - ie, will the rake stay the same?

Many thanks, TQM

Thanks for the reply.

So as the 99 through 03 models all used the same front wheel and wheel bearings, would using a 2002 front spindle mean that 2002 forks would work with a 1999 bike?

Cheers, TQM

Measure the diameter of your front wheel spindle and post it

2002 wheel spindle diameter is 22mm

Sorry I thought the later models increased in diameter, just the rear spindle increased then.

Good news because I have fork legs from a 52 plate for sale

Funny you should mention that...

Currently I'm torn between buying brand new stanchions to replace the pitted ones on my 1999 XJR, replacing the forks entirely with later ones, or selling the bike to make room in the garage. Thing is, every time I think I should just bite the bullet and sell it, I go for a ride and remember just how good the damn thing is. There's worse problems to have, I guess.

Try it and see. For the price of some cheap bearings gotta be worth a look.
