XJR/FJ hybrid 1500cc injected turbo project

Post by Havoc » Mon Oct 17, 2011 8:44 pm

Evening all, haven't posted before because although I've had a couple of 1200 XJR's in the past, my current project might not be suitable. I thought that my trials and tribulations with the motor of the project may be of some interest here. As the title says I'm putting together a gorilla blocked 1500cc turbo motor based on the old 36Y 1100, using throttle bodies from a 2010 XJR, albeit with much bigger injectors, Carrillos, JE pistons, Falicon clutch basket with Barnett spring conversion, Upperton/Trickett 1100 +2mm in, +1mm out, head. Sparks by DYNA, injection controlled by a Megasquirt driver. A little T3 to start with.

Main issue being the lump is going in a Kat

No worries if it's inappropriate, thought the motor work would be of interest,
Cheers,
Tom

If hitting it with a hammer doesn't work, it must be electrical.

Going to have to live with that I think as the construction of the plate makes inserting steel buttons tricky. I have been mostly dragging GSXR's with the button inserts sorted by PhysclWorks, this is all new. Something to deal with at a later date

Front end is FZR1000 Genesis with uprated springs and R1 callipers. Genesis to keep the rightway up fork look. Kept the standard Genesis yolks but pressed in a stem from a GSX1100F Powerscreen to fit the Kat headstock, again to keep a simple Katana look. Front end was straight out of the original FJ1100 I used to race.

Had the old FJ since I brought it in from Italy as a scabby runaround in '94

Definately not rich Mick, although I've spent more on this than I usually do on a project. Thought I'd do it right for a change rather than hunting for 2nd hand bits which, to put a hopefully 300+bhp Yam motor together, are very thin on the ground over here. Total budget for a show finished and fully functioning road/race bike will be about 2/3 the cost of a new XJR. I haven't included the original cost of the FJ (or the mods I did on it) as I've had it forever.

Bit of progress. On it's wheels and empty motor in to measure up for the turbo up pipe. Got some mega injectors on their way for the XJR throttle bodies, should be good for over 400bhp, but not with this turbo...

Crank and rods with SEP in Kegworth for a once over but not expecting any issues. The gear clusters they were happy with so there's a few quid saved (can't be 'undercut' because of design, said it would be fine as long as my airshift/kill etc was cock on, he knows his stuff so happy with that)

hi havoc ,looking good, like the way the manifold on 1 and 4 go around the frame, and a nice bit of welding , i've also stuck to the retro looking forks so i opted for the thunderace front end, just think it looks better with twin rear shocks rather than fitting upside downs

Cartridge front end on the Ace and the little Cat are the bollox, that's next on the list but can build up with this Genesis front as the sizes work. :)
